I'm about to have GB surgery in a few weeks and I bought a ton of powder vitamins but I don't understand how I can get a day supply of vitamins in my system if I'm only drinking two ounces at a time. I work for a premier vitamin company so I may be going overboard, but I currently take:
Daily Vitamin (equivalent of 5 capsules)
11,900 mcg Biotin (1/2 tsp)
1200 mg B12 (1/2 tsp)
4000 mg buffered Vitamin C (1 tsp)
1200 mg Calcium (equivalent of 6 capsules)
6000 IU Vitamin D (3 liquid drops)
20,000 IU Vitamin A (1 liquid drop)
1/2 oz Fish Oil (1 Tbsp)
I am REALLY hoping I can at least digest softgels as the liquid fish oil is GROSS...and it's the ';tasteless flavoured'; stuff...very good quality, though. I can deal with the powder if necessary, but they're pretty nasty and I'll have a hard time getting them all in my drinks.
Also, what vitamins do YOU take? Do you take them separately or do you drink a protein shake that has them all in there?
Thanks! After gastric bypass surgery, are powder vitamins necessary or is it possible to use capsules?
Hasn't your Gasto surgeon discussed anything about packets to take for after surgery? They have everything you need, though they taste very 'odd'. You shouldn't need to be buying all those, no lie when that load with be wasted cause digestion will go so fast, that your body wont be assorbing it. And it is very likely that that will back you fell very sick i.e. ';dummping'; not a nice feelling. This is based on my own expereance. After gastric bypass surgery, are powder vitamins necessary or is it possible to use capsules?
Most of the people I have waited on in a decade of working in a health food store find that capsules or tablets make them sick after a gastric bypass....they tend to end up with gummy vitamins, or powdered...and in MUCH smaller quantities than what you are taking....and frankly, that much fat at once will make you puke after GB, so taking fish oil is going to make you sick....
There is no reason to be taking that much....of anything that you are taking, with the exception of calcium.
I think that I take too much, and I take a multivitamin, an extra 1,000 of vitamin D [I live somewhere where we dont see the sun between september and april], 250 mg of grape seed extract, ginger, cranberry extract and some probiotics everyday...and three doses of fiber spaced through the day....[I'm not crazy about that last part, its doctors orders....]
