Hi. I need to remove wet zinc powder from the inside bottom of conical flasks. Any ideas?

Pour a little dilute hydrochloric or sulfuric acid solution into the flask.

The acid will react with the zinc to form either zinc chloride or zinc

sulfate, depending on the acid used, and both of those are soluble

in water. Hydrogen will be liberated so you will see the fizzing as it

bubbles off. When the zinc is all reacted, pour out the solution and

rinse the flask with water. Behold, clean flask!
